Beulah Jane Elizabeth Shamlian, 97, passed away on July 14, 2009 at her residence. Beulah was born October 30, 1911 in Mountain View, Arkansas to George and Celia Burgess. Beulah’s family came to the Rio Grande Valley from Seminole, Oklahoma in December 1924 on a land drive. They settled East of Rio Hondo and she attended school there. She resided in Harlingen for the last 68 years. Beulah was owner and landlord of various rental and farm properties through out Cameron County and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Harlingen, Texas. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, cooking, fishing and gardening.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, George and Celia Burgess; her husband, Gregory Shamlian; son, Olan Gartman; daughter, Bernice Wyrick Bottoms; four sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Debra Kleemeyer, James Gartman, Steve Shamlian, Carey Shamlian, Sherry McElwrath, and Kenneth Shamlian; twelve great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; two sisters, Verma Dumal and Lavere Sherfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Friday, July 17, 2009 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mel Justice officiating.
