Bettye J. Wallace

May 18, 1927 — December 13, 2014

Betty Joel (BJ) Wallace, age, 87, of Harlingen, Texas passed away in the early morning of December 13, 2014, at Harlingen Medical Center, Harlingen, TX.  She was born in Santa Ana, Texas on May 18, 1927.
BJ attended school in Coleman, TX and later worked at Doug Price Restaurants in Falfurrias where she met her future husband.  BJ and Ed Wallace were married July 28, 1951 in San Antonio, TX.  The couple lived in McAllen for a time before Ed's petroleum engineer career with Schlumberger took them to several Texas towns over the years.  Upon Ed's retirement from Schlumberger in the late 1960's they settled in Harlingen and opened United Farm Bureau Real Estate office, where BJ handled the office management tasks, as well as assisting with farm and ranch sales.
Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her son John, her sister Frances and brother CW.  She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ed Wallace; her sister, Janice Turner, age 95; their daughter Cindy (Danny) McGee; granddaughters Megan Colleen McGee, Julie Joelle Wallace, Mary Camille Lightfoot; beloved daughter-in-law Robbie Wallace, numerous nieces and nephews.
BJ Wallace enjoyed life to the fullest.  She was a founding member of Culpepper's Fallen Angels, a special branch of the Confederate Air Force (CAF) and was an active Life member of CAF Angels until the organization moved in 1991.  She also founded and brilliantly coordinated the Schlumberger Retirees annual reunions.  She enjoyed traveling, yet was also voted the "hostess with the mostest" by her many friends.  Her table was the scenne of many hours spent ejnoying good friends, food, drinks and camaraderie including lively debates.  She was the friend who was always first to help, always with humor and a no nonsense manner.  Books were a constant companion.  She sparkled with bling; loved shoes; loved the beach.  Most of all, she loved her family and her friends as they loved her.
"Life's journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting....What a Ride!"
The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, on Monday, December 15, 2014.
In lieu of flowers the family request that those desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution to the Sunny Glen Children's Home in San Benito, Texas.
