Betty Ann Hall 96, passed away February 18, 2022 at Valley Baptist Medical Center with her family by her side.
Born November 8, 1925 in Edinburg, TX to parents Carl and Vada Ackerson. She was raised in Edinburg where she was a proud Bobcat and Drum Majorette. She often shared stories of her grandparents that immigrated from Sweden coming through Ellis Island. After High School, she graduated from Harlingen Business School. While there, she attended a dance for WWII servicemen at Harlingen Air Base. She met and married Air Force Navigator Duane Duard (Red) Purvis. After WWII they settled in Harlingen, TX having 8 children. Duane died in 1974 leaving Betty to raise the children on her own. Betty worked for the Texas Agriculture Commission in her early career. Later she worked at Mothershed, Hamilton, Day and Mayo CPA Group in Harlingen and McAllen for over 30 years. She was a proud mother who worked tirelessly for her kids. She attended all her children’s activities such as the older girls Band and Twirling, the boy’s baseball, football and track, FFA and Livestock Shows, Cyndi’s Dance and Gymnastic meets.
While working in McAllen she met and married her second husband William Robert Hall. She retired and they spent time travelling in the US and the Caribbean. They shared a love of the beach and lived on St. Croix for a year. Hurricanes drove them back to the mainland and they lived in the RGV until Bob’s death in 1999.
Betty spent a few years living with her daughter Mary Beth in the Florida Keys. She eventually returned to Harlingen to be close to family. She spent the last 5 years living at Valley View Independent Living. She loved all her friends there and the staff. She loved having her own place and being able to live there independently.
Anyone that knew her knows she loved the Dallas Cowboys. She was their biggest fan and never missed their games on TV. She followed anything Dallas Cowboys. She loved attending games in person.
She is preceded in death by her two husbands; her second child, baby Doris Purvis; daughter Suzy Moser Walker (Steve); granddaughter, Melody Pursley Swinnea (Brad); her parents, Carl and Vada Ackerson; and her sisters, Olean Wilson, Doris (Wiley) Joseph, and Mildred Williamson.
