Betty Lou Root passed peacefully from this earth into the arms of Jesus October 16, 2014.
She was born to James Warren and Bessie Lee Foster Gibson, June 20, 1924, Osgood, Missouri. She graduated from Galt High School, 1942. She worked for the telegraph office at Union Station in Kansas City, MO where she met her husband George Wilbur Root - they were married in 1945 when he returned from World War II. They had three children, Robert Warren, Leann and Joyce Annette.
She moved to Texas permanently in 1997 and worked in the office of Fun N Sun RV Resort for several years. She volunteered in various functions in the park but enjoyed her last one at the dance hall the most. Betty Lou always said she came into this world dancing and was hoping that would be the way she went out of it.
She was a member of Rio Hondo First Baptist Church in Rio Hondo, Texas. She was baptized in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ at the age of 14) in Galt, MO. Betty Lou had a great love for cats, especially Siamese. She enjoyed TV, working crossword puzzles, quilting and emceeing programs at FNS.
She was preceded in death by her mother Bessie Lee (Foster), father James Gibson, husband George Wilbur Root, companion, Bill Sosbey, daughter Leann, sister Doris Jane and brother Rex Eugene - she leaves her children, Bobby and Joyce Annette (Rick), 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and her dance partner Gene Moore. She stayed very close to her school mates, Linda Lou Minnick, Betty Mae Lindberg (deceased), Maurice Berry (deceased) and her square dance friend, Norma Popp.
One of Betty Lou’s favorite verses was Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
A celebration of life will be held at Fun N Sun on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:00 AM.
She has requested in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the youth group at Rio Hondo First Baptist Church.
