Betty LaJean Lane Morris, 88, passed away August 19, 2014 at Sunshine Haven due to a full life of serving Her Lord and Savior.
Betty was born January 23, 1926 in Brownwood, Texas to James B. Lane, Sr. and Irna Ward Lane. She attended Hardin Simmons University of Abilene, Texas, where she received a B.A. Degree. Betty married Russell Ralph Morris on December 21, 1947 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas. She was on the International Mission Board and was an Emeritus Missionary for 31 years. Betty was also on the Texas Missions Southern Baptist Home Mission Board for 13 years, the Missions Service Corp and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Russell Ralph Morris; their children Lewie J. Morris and his wife Peggy and her granddaughters, Jessica Morris and Joanna Morris and great grandson Logan; her daughter Betty Morris Marlow Friedman and her husband Dave Friedman; her son Timothy L. Morris and his wife Karen R. Morris, and granddaughter, Amand V. Garcia; her sister Mary Lynn Arnold. Also surviving her are countless Missionary Associates and their families, and countless friends in Lebanon, Jordan, Kenya, Tanzania, and East Africa. Betty is also survived by her close and dear friends at Golden Palms Retirement and Healthcare Center, friends in Harlingen and the Rio Grande Valley Southern Mission Board Missions Service Corp.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen, Texas with Rev. Brandon Helm officiating.
