Betty Lou Mays

Betty Lou Spradling Mays, 93, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017. She was born May 16, 1924 in Charleston, WV the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Shirley McFarland Spradling.
In 1942 she secretly married John A. Mays, prior to his deployment to Europe in the U.S. Army during WW II. Betty worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement. They moved to Harlingen from Staunton, VA during which time they enjoyed traveling and visiting many friends and family. John and Betty were lifetime members of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen.
Betty is survived by many nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by her husband, John, her daughter, Shirley Ann Thomas and her two sisters, Freda Spradling White and Polly Spradling Bell.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the assisted living staff of Golden Palms of Harlingen and Valley View Memory Care Facility also of Harlingen. In addition the family is truly grateful for the compassionate care from Christine Huber and Tina Puente.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 8, 2017 with private burial to follow.
Betty’s kind and humble spirit will be truly missed by all.
