Betty Jane Meier King, 92, passed away on the 30th of December, 2020 at home.
Betty was born on October 20, 1928 in Kirkwood, Missouri to Ernest and Mabel Meier. Grandparents were William E. and Effie Elizabeth DeRousse, Charles and Elizabeth Martha Meier. Betty was 9 months old when the Meier family moved from Kirkwood to the Rio Grande Valley. On February 20th, 1948 Betty married George A. King, Jr. from Mercedes and made Mercedes her home until 1964 at which time she and George moved to Topeka, Kansas and lived there until April, 1967. In 1967, George was transferred to Washington, D.C. In 1971, Betty went to work for Atlantic Research Corporation in Alexandria, Virginia. Betty was hired as a payroll clerk, 17 years later retired as the Manager of the Payroll Department. ARC has grown from 750 employees in 1971 to over 5000 in 1988. Betty had many dear friends in Virginia and Kansas and visited them every opportunity she had.
Betty is survived by sister-in-law, Carol Meier; nephew Robert Charles Meier (Tammy), nieces Nancy Meier Krug (David), Judy Lucas Edmiston, Margaret Lucas Swanson (John); and as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. George, Betty’s husband of 52 years, passed away September 16, 2000.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 1st at St. John Lutheran Church in San Benito with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Mercedes.
Pallbearers will be Richard Buchen, John Drawe, Eric Guerrero, Charles (Chuck) Brown, Zachary Swanberg, and Bryant Soendker.
In lieu of flowers Betty has requested memorial donations be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 1000 North Crockett, San Benito, Texas 78586.
