Betty Iris Campbell

Betty Iris Campbell, 85, passed away at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, TX on Friday, December 2, 2011 of natural causes.
She was born in Bloomington, Indiana to Ina and Harry Hobbs on February 16, 1926.  She graduated from high school in Attica, Kansas and came to the Valley at the age of 18.  She lived in Harlingen all of her life.  She worked for 20 years as a secretary for Harlingen CISD.
Betty’s passion was for her family.  She was a gifted seamstress.  She made prom dresses and wedding dresses for her daughters and granddaughters.  She loved to crochet and made numerous doilies and afghans for each member of her family.  She also made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for each of her great-grandchildren.  She made a treasured quilt for each of her daughters that included the handprints of each family member.  Betty was most at peace when she was creating something for her family.  She has left numerous items that will be precious reminders of her love for her family.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Barbara Greenawalt (Charles) of Kingsland, TX: Janette Simpson Fox (John) of Harlingen, TX: Mary Uecker (Myron) of Johnson City, TX: Leslie Campbell and Kristi Johnston of Harlingen.  Other survivors include three brothers, Paul Hobbs (Peggy), Bill Hobbs (Linda) and Donald Hobbs (Debbie) all of Bloomington, IN;: two sister-in-laws, Diane Hobbs of Bloomington, IN and Louise Hobbs of Garland, TX: one brother-in-law, Ernest Moore of Memphis, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.  Betty is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Brenda Prather (Russell) of Lubbock, TX, Robert Greenawalt (Rosie) of College Station, TX, Laura Secrest (Leonard) of La Vernia, TX, Anna Lee Stanko (Delmer) of Harlingen, Billie D. Simpson (Stephanie) and Natalie Simpson of Rio Hondo, Cain Wilson (Wendy) of Rio Hondo, Nicole Wilson of Victoria, TX  and 14 great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, A.D. Campbell, one sister, Marietta Moore and three brothers, James Hobbs, Harold Hobbs and Harry Hobbs.
A memorial visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Memorial services will also be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 7, 2011.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice Health Care of South Texas, 2501 Paredes Line Rd., Ste. B-9, Brownsville, TX 78526.
