Betty Jane Dossey Baczewski was born September 19, 1925 in Okema, Oklahoma to Audrey and Bill Dossey. She was raised by Audrey and OT Burns of Harlingen. Betty passed away March 21, 2021 at the age of 95.
Betty and Tony were married in 1946. While living in Alaska, Betty joined sorority in 1958.
Betty and Tony were awarded the franchise for the Overhead Door Company in 1967 and operated it until she sold the business in 2014. Her longtime friend, Betsy Terry, helped her start the business in the garage of the house until they were able to build the office and warehouse.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Harlingen until she moved her membership to Calvary Baptist Church in 2019.
Betty was an active member of “The Swingers Bunco Club” since 1967 until her health prevented her from playing in 2017. She was also a member of “Red Hats” and The Elks Lodge.
She loved being in the middle of the action. Betty and Tony enjoyed dancing and going to parties. She thoroughly enjoyed working with her hands. She painted, did all types of needlework, and made gorgeous leis from pearls for her Sorority sisters. Her childhood friend, Joyce Mays Corso, said that Betty was fiercely independent as a young girl and made all of her own clothes. Anyone that knew Betty knew she was outspoken and spoke her mind.
Betty had a BIG heart. She was generous in financially assisting countless individuals over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Anthony (Tony) and her son, Randy.
Left to treasure Betty’s memory are her sons, Gary (Celie) of Harper, Texas and Tony Ray of Harlingen; and her two grandsons, Cody and Tyler Baczewski.
