SAN BENITO, TX:
Bertha Angelica Chapa, 85, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2008 in San Benito, Texas.
Bertha was born June 23, 1923 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Daniel Chapa and Petrita Gonzales. She graduated from San Benito High School in 1941 as an honor student and received her B.A. degree in International Affairs and Political Science from University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. Bertha was an accomplished pianist and as a teenager would give piano concerts. She was an avid reader and very interested in international affairs.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Petrita Chapa; her brother, Luciano Chapa; and sister, Blanca Trevino.
She is survived by three brothers, Daniel (Hilda) Chapa of Georgetown, Texas, Romeo (Berta) Chapa of Brownsville, Texas, Ruben (Noemi) Chapa of Cedar Park, Texas; and sister, Consuelo Champion of Brownsville, Texas.
Visitation will be held at San Benito Funeral Home on Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.
The funeral procession will depart San Benito Funeral Home on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in San Benito. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Daniel Chapa, Ruben Chapa, Mario Chapa, Luciano Chapa, Augusto Champion, and Jorge Champion.
