Berta Escamilla, 77 passed peacefully on Friday, 9th of September, 2016 in Harlingen, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born in San Pedro, Texas to the late Facundo and Maria Garcia on March 16, 1939.
Mrs. Escamilla is preceded in death by her parents Facundo and Maria Garcia, her in-laws Pablo and Agapita Escamilla and a very special nephew Vincent James Garcia, as well as other family members.
Mrs. Escamilla is Survived by her husband of 57 years Armando Escamilla, her Daughter Sandra (Bob) Leal, and son Henry (Nina) Escamilla; 4 Grand Children Bobby (Kourtney) Leal, Meagan (Tony) Pena, Amanda (Steve) Perez, and Philip Escamilla, ^ great-grandchildren Robby, Lanie, and Aly Leal, Jacob Pena, and Haylee and Khloe Perez; sisters Gloria (Cesar) Cuellar, Gracie (Raymond) Gonzalez; brothers Agustin (Janie) Garcia, Santiago (Elva) Garcia, Facundo (Aminta) Garcia Jr. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Berta was a devoted Catholic her entire life and instilled that faith to her family. Berta was happiest with her family at her side and leaves behind countless memories that will always be cherished by her loved ones. She loved making tamales and enjoyed the annual tamalada that she started first with her daughters, then her granddaughters and towards the end any family member that wanted to join in. Her and her husband had recently started making cheeses and she would pass them out to family members with pride. Berta will be missed by many but she will continue to live on thru her family.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Leal, Tony Pena, Steve Perez, Philip Escamilla, Gus Garcia, and Jaime Escamilla. Honorary Pallbearers are Robby Leal, Jacob Pena, and Chris Garza.
Visitation will be held Sunday, the 11th of September 2016, beginning at 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. Sunday within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel, 1400 West Highway 77, San Benito, Texas 78586.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, the 12th of September 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St, Ignatius Church in El Ranchito, TX. Interment will follow to Escamilla Cemetery in El Naranjo.
