Harlingen:
Beatrice M. Broyles, 89, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen after a short illness.
Bea was born on November 2, 1922 in New Orleans, LA to John and Beatrice McGuire. She was a graduate of Orberlin College and received her Master’s Degree from North Texas State University in 1952.
Bea was a longtime resident of the Valley and moved to Harlingen in 1952. She was a school teacher and taught in the Harlingen Independent School District for many years. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen, where she was the church organist for many years and recently attended St. Alban’s Episcopal Church also in Harlingen. She was also a member of the PEO Chapter FY.
Bea enjoyed many activities especially playing golf and Bridge with her “Dear Friends”. She will be remembered as a joyful person with a great sense of adventure.
She is survived by daughter, Linda Coscio of Houston, TX; son, John Smither of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Steven Coscio and Susan Coscio both of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Grace, Jorge, Gaby Coscio, Elena Piacentini all of Houston, TX; nephews and nieces, Peter Speek of Boulder, CO; nieces, Laura Speek of Denver, CO and Daria Lott of Carmel, CA, Gretchen Montano, Stephanie, John and Karen Boutz and children of Albuquerque, NM. Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Broyles in 1992.
A memorial service celebrating Bea’s life will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 8, 2012 with the Rev. Chris Caddell officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall at St. Alban’s.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
