Barton W. Nott

May 7, 1927 — November 3, 2010

Harlingen:
Barton Warren Nott, Jr. was born in Beaumont, Texas to Margaret and Barton Warren Nott (Sr.) on May 5, 1927.  Barton graduated from Port Arthur's Thomas Jefferson High School at the age of 16 and completed 2 years of college at Lamar Junior College and Rice Institute before enlisting in the Marine Corp. He was discharged from service after WWII and completed his education at the University of Texas with a BBA in Public Accounting and from the Air Force ROTC Program as an Air Force 2nd Lieutenant.
In 1950, Barton was commissioned as a Field Auditor for the IRS until he purchased a small bookkeeping and tax return practice which evolved into Nott & Associates, PC, CPAs, and he was recognized in 2007 for having held a working CPA certificate for 50 years.
Barton received his 3rd Degree as a Master Mason at 21 and was issued a Lifetime Teaching Certificate in 1979.  He served as the Worshipful Master of the Harlingen Lodge in 1972, became a 32nd degree Mason (Scottish Rite), a Shriner, and was honored as a 60-year Mason.
Barton spent a number of years on the Harlingen community concert Board, two years as President.  He was also a life member of the American Legion, member of the Elks, Rotary, a Colonel in the Confederate Air Force, and was a Texas-EX Student Association Life Member.
Barton joined the First Baptist Church in 1951 and was ordained a Deacon in 1955.  He was an enthusiastic member of the Church choir, a Department Superintendant, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendant of Los Vecinos Mission, served on numerous committees and was a hospital visitor.
Barton was first and foremost a family man who adored his three sons and said of Mary Lou that he could not have found a more perfect wife.  Not only did he provide a good life for his family, but enriched it by enthusiastically sharing it with them.  Barton delighted in having jokes for all occasions and desired to be remembered for his sense of humor, making people laugh and never knowing a stranger.  He loved playing “42,” eating ice cream and sucking on peppermints.
Barton Warren Nott, Jr., died November 3rd, 2010.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Louise Kidd Nott, and three sons:  Barton W. Nott, III (Susan), of Harlingen; Michael D. Nott (Sherry), of San Antonio; and Robert D. Nott (Debbie), of Harlingen; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barton W. Nott, Sr. and Margaret L. Nott and daughter-in-law Lynda A. (Haynes) Nott.
