Barbara Ann Tant Dudley 84, of Harlingen, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep while residing at Windsor Atrium on July 1, 2016; she had been diagnosed with lung cancer 7 months prior.
She was born February 2, 1932 in Phoenix City, Alabama to Fred and Lillie Mae Tant; she had 2 brothers, Guy & Alfred who were quite older than she when she was born. She grew up during the depression, graduated from Central High School in Phoenix City and went on to marry and have 2 children, a daughter, Jaye Kristina and a son John Anderson the III. She was a homemaker and in the late 70’s/early 80’s was quite active in the GOP, attending conferences, being a delegate at such conferences and helping to run local Republican Party precincts while residing in San Antonio, TX. Some of her favorite accomplishments were meeting the following Presidents along with their wives: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan and for working hard to help get Ronald Reagan elected President.
She is survived by her daughter, Jaye Kristina Dudley of Harlingen, and 3 grandsons; Jonathon, Matthew & Nicholas Stonebraker, also of Harlingen. She is also survived by 2 nephews; Stuart (Guy) Tant of Escondido, Calif., and Randy Moore of Birmingham, Ala., also 2 nieces; Susan Moore of San Diego, Calif., and Kaysie Dudley of Ocala, Florida; as well as her sister-in-law Dorothy Dudley Moore of Birmingham, Ala.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Anderson Dudley Jr. (died May 2007), her son, John Anderson Dudley III (died May 1981), her parents, her two brothers Guy and Alfred Tant, and a nephew Russell Moore (died Aug. 1980 ?).
As the wife of a Border Patrol/Immigration Agent for 25 years, she became quite adept to packing, moving and unpacking as she ( & we) moved around a lot (approx.21 times in a 20 year period). Although she was born and raised in Alabama, she came to love the state of Texas more than her own home state and as a result she (and my father) were granted Honorary Texan Citizenship status by Senator John Tower back in the early 70’s. She was also a great supporter of animal rights and gave generously to Humane Societies both locally and nationally.
In lieu of any flowers/gifts, please donate to your local animal shelter or cancer charity.
Thank you to Veranda Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for her care during the year that she resided with you and to Windsor Atrium for her care during the last 6 months.
