Barbara A. Beck
Barbara A. Beck, formerly of San Antonio and Canyon Lake, Texas died in her home in Harlingen, Texas on May 1, 2014 at the age of 84. She had moved to Harlingen in 2008 to be near her daughter in her later years. Barbara A. Beck was born and reared in San Antonio and spent most of her life there. After graduating Brackenridge High School, Barbara married her sweetheart Herbert A. Arnold in 1948 and had 28 wonderful years with him before losing him in 1976. In 1984 she fell in love with Farrel E. Beck. They married and had almost 25 years of marriage filled with many travels to Hawaii and Germany and cruises to Alaska, the Carribean and through the Panama Canal. On many of her travels she was the “travel agent” making all the arrangements which she loved doing. Barbara and Farrell spent numerous summers camping at the foot of Wolfe Creek Pass in Colorado and hosting friends and family. Barbara was a talented oil painter and crafter and spent many enjoyable hours with friends working on paintings and crafts while she lived at Canyon Lake and in Harlingen.
Barbara worked most of her life as an educational secretary in the San Antonio Independent School District working at the main office, various junior schools and high schools. She also worked for the Region One Education Service Center. She was past president and a member of the SAISD Educational Secretaries Association, and a member of the Iota Zeta Chi Sorority and the Retired Teachers’ Association.
Barbara A. Beck is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Arnold) Swanson (C.A.); son Herbert A. Arnold, Jr. (Marilyn Dugger); sons Farrel E. Beck, Jr. (Cheryl) and Scott Beck (Vicky). She is also survived by her grandchildren Kimberly Nail (Josh); Joshua Arnold; Heather Beck (Shawn Ketterring); Sara Beck (Park Chisolm); Ronnie Beck; Randy Beck (Aimee) and David Beck. Ten great grandchildren survive her and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by sisters-in law Elaine Dole and Dorothy Rotzler.
Predeceasing her were her parents John F. Rotzler and Ethel A. (Rees) Rotzler, sister Doris Cross and brother J. Frederick Rotzler, her first husband, Herbert A. Arnold and her second husband Farrel E. Beck.
A funeral service was held May 6th in San Antonio with internment at San Fernando III Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
A memorial service will be held in Harlingen on Sunday, May 18th, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 1001 E. Jackson St. for friends wishing to say good bye.
