Aurora G. (Gonzalez) Vargas

Aurora G. Vargas peacefully passed to be with our Lord on January 9, 2023 at the age of ninety-five.  She was born March 17, 1927 to the late Rosario Gonzalez and Elena Peña Gonzalez in San Antonio, Texas.

She was a loving mother and homemaker and was a devoted member of Unity Church. One of her last statements was, “I’m ready to see our Lord.”

Aurora is preceded in death by her first husband, Heraclio Salinas, with whom she had six children, and her second husband, Amado Vargas, with whom she spent nearly forty years before his passing.

Left to treasure Aurora’s memory are her children, Reynaldo Salinas (Mary Francis Teniente), Homero Salinas, Paul Anthony Salinas (Irene), Elena Abbott (Steve), George Michael Salinas (Jenny). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lisa Tesitor, Paul A. Salinas, David Salinas, Regina R. Salinas, Alexa N. Salinas, Daniel Abbott, Mia Salinas, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock.

Visitation will continue Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home Thursday at 12:30 p.m. to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Harlingen for the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Following the Mass, Aurora will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rey Salinas, Homero Salinas, Paul Salinas, Paul A. Salinas, George Salinas, and Daniel Abbott.
