Audrey Fay Skeen, 89, passed away on July 6, 2016 at Harlingen Nursing Center in Harlingen, TX.
Fay was born November 20, 1926 in Detroit, MI to Clarence “Troy” Dill and Libbie (Blalock) Dill/Fredette. She spent her childhood in Hickory, KY. Returning to Detroit and attending South Eastern High School where she was a member of the Drum and Bugle Core. She married Richard H. Skeen on July 3, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. They lived in Warren, Franklin, and Gladwin, MI. Fay was a mother and housewife until her youngest entered High School when she got a job as a Nurses Aid at South Macomb Hospital. She also worked for Dr. Urena as a receptionist/assistant for a while, retiring to become a full time housewife again. She was of the Catholic faith; she enjoyed spending time with her family and dogs, reading, and working in her rose garden.
In 1989 they became winter Texans living at Casa del Sol in Donna, TX, Trails in Pharr, Bentsen Palms in Mission, and settling down at Sun Valley Village in Harlingen, TX.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Ann Matthews and husband Donald D. Matthews of MI/TX, Sister Margie Hudson of MI, step-grandchildren Linda Matthews Schroeder (Lonnie Schroeder) of NM, Tom Matthews of NM, Mike Matthews (Tonya White Matthews) of IN and Rick Matthews of AZ; 10 step great-grandchildren; 14 step great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also leaving behind her is dog Princess.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard H. Skeen, Sr.; son Richard H. Skeen, Jr.; sisters Pauline Cope and Celeston “Pete” Crooks.
