Arturo “Art” Rodriguez, 81, peacefully passed March 10, 2023 at eighty-one years of age. Art was born September 2, 1942 to the late Leonardo and Consuelo Rodriguez in Weslaco, Texas.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Corporal. Art was awarded the USMC Good Conduct medal, the National Defense Service medal, and the M-14 rifle Marksmanship badge.
Art retired from the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant near Denver, Colorado where he was employed as Maintenance Plant Worker.
In his leisure time, Art loved bowling on leagues with friends, camping, and fishing. In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved socializing. Art never met a stranger wherever he went.
He was also an active member of the Westminster Elks Lodge #2277 of Westminster, Colorado.
Art was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Isidore Rodriguez and Roberto Rodriguez.
Left to treasure Art’s memory are his children, Richard Rodriguez, Edward Rodriguez, and María Magdalena (Ernie) Sayson; grandchildren, Jesse Clendenen, Carli Clendenen, Ana Craft, and Elijah Sayson; great-grandchildren, Claire Craft, Karis Craft, Victoria Craft, and Isaiah Sayson. He is also survived by his siblings, Avelino Rodriguez, Leon Rodriguez, Minerva Rivera, Alejandra Buehler; a host of nieces and nephews; and his longtime girlfriend, Frances Rodriguez.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Jesús Rodriguez for going the extra mile and showing kindness through a very difficult time and to Valley View Assisted Living staff for their kindness and compassion.
Art will be laid to rest with full military honors Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery. The American Vietnam Veterans, Chapter One of Brownsville, Texas will render military honors.
