Baytown/San Benito, TX - Antonio Moreno, 75, was called home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2011 at home surrounded by family, after a long-term illness. Antonio was born June 5, 1935 in Lyford, Texas to Felix and Francisca Mata Moreno.
As a young adult, he served in the U.S. Army. During that time he courted the woman who was to become his wife, Natividad Gonzalez. They were married on December 31, 1957. He was a Carpenter by trade; he loved working with his hands doing small projects, but his accomplishments also included the construction of his home and assisting the construction of his childrens’ homes. He loved tending his garden and enjoyed being outdoors. He never met a stranger; he made friends wherever he went. He taught the importance of helping those less fortunate, and that virtue has carried on in his future generations. He enjoyed spending time with his family-he loved his children, but loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren even more. He always had a big smile on his face, one that remained with him until the very end.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Natividad Moreno; his children, Norma (Juan) Aguilar, Felix (Debbie) Moreno, Melinda (Joel) Garcia, and Rosie (Leo) Garcia; his grandchildren, Selena Aguilar, Randy Garcia (Stephanie), Melanie Garcia (Ashish), Michael Garcia (Nicole), Kevin Moreno, Natalie Aguilar, Kristen Garcia-Armstrong (Matthew), Bryan Moreno, and Leo Garcia Jr.; and his great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Anthony, Kailey, and Chloe Garcia. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Clemente Moreno, Guadalupe Cantu, Rosa (Francisco) Marroquin, Petra Gonzales, and Juan (Guadalupe) Moreno.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Francisca Mata Moreno; a sister, Sophia Solis; and his great-grandson, Michael Garcia Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.
