Laurie Richards passed away peacefully at her residence in Harlingen, Texas on Sunday, April 21, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 25, 1937, in Tabor, Texas to Will and Marjorie Presnal, being the only daughter among seven siblings.
Laurie was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, Texas, class of 1955. That same year marked the beginning of a lifelong companionship with Lee Richards whom she married, as he was completing his senior year at Texas A & M University. Their union not only blossomed into a 64-year marriage but also ignited a shared passion for Texas A & M athletics. Together, they faithfully attended numerous Aggie home football games and various other sporting events until Lee's passing in September 2019.
Following Lee's military service duties in Georgia, the couple settled permanently in his hometown of Harlingen where he assumed the role of President at Hygeia Dairy Company. Laurie actively engaged as a member of the Harlingen Junior Service League since 1960 and enjoyed golfing as a member of the Harlingen Country Club and Women's Golf Association. Her skill on the golf course earned her several accolades in tournaments across the valley. Both Laurie and Lee played integral roles in the Life Begins at 40 Golf Tournament for many years.
Laurie was predeceased by her husband, Lee Richards, and her cherished brothers Robert, James K., Allister, Bill, and Danny Presnal.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Lezlea Ross and Lance Richards; her brother Dr. Henry Louis Presnal; sisters-in-law Gene Presnal, Mickey Presnal, and Donna Presnal; grandchildren Kathryn Paige (Anthony), Robert Ross (Samantha), Liza Ross; as well as eight great-grandchildren who held a special place in her heart.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Magda, her nurse; Amavi Hospice; and Sharon Jones, a long-time friend and caregiver for their unwavering support. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2024, at Alexander Cemetery located at 5300 Alexander Cemetery Rd., Bryan, TX 77808.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions honoring Laurie’s legacy may be made to the Texas A & M Association of Former Students Ring fund at 5105 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840 or online at tx.ag/LaurieRichards.
