Anita Irene Young

Irene Young passed away Saturday, June 23rd in her home in Combes, Texas.  She was born on May 7, 1922 in Post, Texas and later moved to Bronte, Texas, where she grew up and graduated Valedictorian of her high school.  She then attended John Tarleton Junior College in Stephenville, Texas in the summer of 1940 pursuing degrees in home economics and nursing.  While at college she met E.O. Young who was a flight instructor there and they were married on October 4, 1940.
Irene and E.O. then moved to Coleman, Texas where he was a flight commander at Coleman Flight School for several years.  They then moved to Weslaco, Texas where E.O. was an automotive parts salesman.  The Youngs then moved to Harlingen, Texas.
The Youngs owned and operated Young Flying Service for 20 years in Harlingen, Texas.  Irene learned to fly and held a Commercial Pilot Certificate.  She competed in the Powder Puff Derby and the Angel Derby ladies air races for quite some time before the Youngs sold Young Flying Service and retired and traveled by motorhome for several years.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband E.O. Young in 1996 and her eldest son Jimmy Young in 1997 and is survived by sons, Bob Young of Rancho Viejo, Texas, Fred Young of South Padre Island, Texas; brother, Bill Lloyd and his wife Jane of Graham, Texas; sister-in-law, Annie Lee Bunton of Kerrville, Texas; nephew Bill Young of Virginia; niece, Linda Faubion of Austin, Texas, niece Melissa Spencer and her husband Jim of Weatherford, Texas; nephew Mike Lloyd of Ft. Worth, Texas; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Irene enjoyed living at the Sunshine Country Club where she became an avid bridge player and had many friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 10 a.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Horton officiating.  Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donation be made to the American Cancer Society.
