HARLINGEN, TX:
Anita Snavely entered the Life Everlasting on Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Anita graced us with her presence for almost 92 years. She was born to William and Mary Menger on January 14, 1916 in Big Spring, Texas, the fourth of five siblings who have all preceded her in death. She met, fell in love, and married a dashing young Air Force officer in 1939, Eugene Snavely, who promised to show her the world. Following Gene’s retirement from the Air Force after 26 years of service, the couple returned to his hometown of Harlingen in 1961.
Throughout her life, Anita was involved in many organization; the Study Club of Harlingen, Garden Club, Bridge Club, Chapter T of the PEO, the Swim Team of the Harlingen Elks Lodge, Loaves and Fishes, and Women’s Circle of the First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen. Our “yellow rose of Texas” was known for her sweet disposition and caring ways. The sick and homebound could be certain to receive a visit from Anita with her famous flan.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Eugene. She is survived by daughters, Mary Ellen Snavely Monahan of Harlingen and Sarah Snavely Buser of Houston, TX; son-in-law, Dr. Sam J. Buser of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Hunter Monahan of Fredericksburg, TX, Hilary Monahan of Harlingen, Mariko Buser of Austin, TX, and Kimi Buser of Los Angeles, CA; and great granddaughter, Logan Monahan of Harlingen. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and numerous “kissing cousins.”
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Golden Palms Health Center. All their love and caring hands supported not only our mother, but the family as well.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Justin Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anita’s name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen, 402 E. Jackson St., Harlingen, TX 78550, or charity of choice.
