Andrew Wayne White, 89, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at a local hospital in Harlingen Texas.

Wayne was born in Turnersville, Texas on May 20, 1928, to James B. White and Melzena McClendon White.  Through his early childhood, Wayne moved to Mercedes, Texas where he attended public schools.  In 1945, Wayne joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during the last part of World War II.

After returning from service, Wayne met the love of his life, Vimmajean Hunt from La Feria Texas.  They were married on November 10, 1949 and had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

Wayne and Jean were both baptized in the First Baptist Church of La Feria, Texas in 1951, and in later years, joined Rangerville Baptist Church where they are still members today.

Wayne’s working career included a short time in farming but he soon became a brick layer.  Wayne worked in the masonry business for many years later becoming the owner of H.E. Hunt Masonry in Harlingen, Texas.  One of his last construction projects was the building of the Basilica of the National Shrine of our Lady of San Juan Del Valle (the Shrine),   Wayne taught masonry at the Harlingen public schools and after retiring from the business, he worked for the Harlingen CISD as a Maintenance Construction Specialist.

And they Loved to Square Dance.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Vimmajean, his two daughters, Babs Gonzalez (Claudio), Mary Ellen Smith (Kenneth), grandsons Andy Jones (Kendra), Buster Jones (Noelia), Austin Smith, and granddaughter, Shannon Pruett (Bryan) and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 4, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 10:30 am at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria with Rev. David Mann officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Rangerville Baptist Church.
