Dr. Andres Nicolas “Nick” Vallado, 87, of Los Fresnos, Texas, went to join his beloved wife, Grace Munoz Vallado, in Heaven on Friday, May 31, 2024. They were married for 59 years prior to her passing in 2018.
Nick was born in Brownsville, Texas and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he met and married his beloved wife. He served in active duty in the U.S. Air Force and later in the Reserve. With the support of his wife, he went on to complete his education and received a Bachelor’s in Science, a Master’s in Arts and a Doctorate degree in Education. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Corpus Christi where he served for many years and a member of the Lion’s Club of Los Fresnos. He and his family were faithful members of the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Corpus Christ where he served as a deacon and treasurer until he moved his family to Los Fresnos where they joined the First Baptist Church, and he and his wife became charter members of Olmito Community Church in 2010. His many years in education led him to Los Fresnos, Texas where he served as Superintendent of Schools from 1976 to 1989. He later served on Los Fresnos CISD School Board for 12 years with two terms as President. Dr. “V” as many students and colleagues referred to him by, was a Professor of School Specialties at the University of Texas in Brownsville, Texas from 1991 until his final retirement in 2017. Aside from his passion for teaching, he was a skilled wood worker and was featured in the Valley Morning Star for his remarkable talent and hobby. Most of the furniture in their home was handmade by Dr. V. Among his many collections, he was also an avid collector in WWII memorabilia and possessed artifacts listed in numerous publications.
Left to treasure his memory are children Nora Arredondo and David Vallado; grandchildren Nicolas (Rachael) Arredondo, Grace (Justin) Muraida, Damian Cabrera and Zoe Cabrera; great grandchildren Bradley Muraida, Estrella Garza, Alma Arredondo and Serenity Garza; Brothers, Alberto (Janie) Herrera Jr, Samuel (Esmeralda) Herrera and sisters Rosalinda Herrera and Alma Vallado Fajardo and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews
Dr. V. was preceded in death by his wife Grace Munoz Vallado, parents Nicolas A. Vallado and Aurora Herrera, stepfather Alberto Herrera Sr and son-in-law Manny Arredondo.
The Vallado / Arredondo family will receive guests on Saturday, June 8, 2024 beginning at 12:00 PM followed by a Military Tribute at 2:30 PM and Celebration of Life service at 3:00 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas (This event will be livestream at:
