Andres Cordova Jr.

December 20, 1935 — December 8, 2023

San Benito, Texas

Andres Cordova Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023 in San Benito, Texas.  He was born to the late Andres Isaac and Felicidad Gutierrez Cordova on December 20, 1935 in Donna, Texas.

Andres graduated from Donna High School in 1956, where he played for the Donna Redskin football team.  Andres proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard.  He was employed as a truck driver and went by the handle “Tombstone”

His favorite thing was his family and his family history.  He loved to research and talk about his family history and how he is a 7th generation direct descendant of Captain Antonio Gil Y’Barbo who established the city of Nacogdoches and his Old Stone Fort Museum at the Stephen F. Austin University Campus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Felicidad Cordova; his youngest sister, Mary Jane Cordova Simpson; his brother, Hernan Cordova; two stillborn sons, Andres Cordova III and Juan Antonio Cordova; and his wife Raquel Leija Cordova.

Left to treasure his memory is his daughter, Maria del Rosario Cordova-Galvan (Roman); his two grandchildren, Rachel Rose Galvan and Roman Daniel Galvan Jr.; his siblings, Hortencia Cordova, David Cordova (Gilda), Emma Hinojosa (Carlos), Norman Z. Cordova (Isabel), Ofilia Cordova Grubb, Cesar Cordova (Faye); his sister-in-law, Natalia Guetzow (Faustino); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Yadira Perez, Nurse Practitioner and the nurses and staff of Mount Sinai Hospice.
