HARLINGEN/CORPUS CHRISTI, TX:
Amanda Lydia Merkord Jones, 95, left us to be with our Lord on Monday, November 12, 2007.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years Virgil and by her son Milton V. Jones.
Amanda was born on February 4, 1912 in Miliam County to Karl and Ida Merkord.  She was raised on the Merkord Farm with her eight brothers and sisters and moved to Corpus Christi in 1930 to work at McCoys Department Store. Amanda married Virgil Jones in 1931 and raised their two children in the Corpus Christi area.  Amanda was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired in 1974 with 30 years of service.  She moved to Harlingen, Texas in 2004 to be close to her daughter and family.
Amanda spent her life devoted to her family.  She enjoyed playing cards and dominos.  She was a member of Saint Marks Lutheran Church and a member of Pioneers Foundation.
She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Daniell (Leon) of Harlingen, Texas; brother Alvin Merkord of Fillmore, California; granddaughter, Becky Mathews (Dan) of Austin, Texas; grandson, Ted Daniell (Melissa) of Harlingen, Texas; great grandchildren, Carl Shepard, Jessica Hruska (Tim), Brian Shepard, and Jake Daniell.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 1 p.m. in Corpus Christi at Saint Marks Lutheran Church and burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
