Dateline:  Combes:  Alta (Tillie) Lee Day, 80, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Alta was born in Breckenridge, Texas on January 7, 1929 to John and Matilda Day.  She had been a resident of the Valley since 1932 and a resident of Combes since 1948.  She received her Undergraduate and Master’s Degree’s from Texas A & I University in Kingsville.
Alta was a teacher at Cash Elementary in San Benito for over 31 years, a lifetime artist and enjoyed arts and crafts.   She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Combes for over 60 years and the church organist.  She also was a member of the O.E.S. Star Chapter #641 in Harlingen.
Survivors include nephew, Duane E. Day and wife, Bonnie of Wylie, TX; niece, Dinah Hinkle and husband, Jeff of Frisco, TX; brother, W.E. “Buster” Day and wife, Laurice of Frisco, TX; great nephew, Jeff Hinkle and wife, Jamie; great nieces, Jennifer Baysinger and husband, Michael of Jacksonville, TX, Laura Lankford and husband, Brian of Savannah, TX.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside services only will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Harlingen/Combes Cemetery in Combes, TX with the Rev. Steve Wiest officiating.
A memorial service for Alta will also be held at the First Baptist Church in Combes, 10:00 AM, Monday, December 21, 2009.
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church in Combes, 402 Templeton St., Combes, Texas 78535.
