Allen (Arkie) Lloyd Stewart, age 87, peacefully entered eternal life on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Windsor Atrium nursing home in Harlingen, Texas.
Born on March 20, 1929 in McCrory, Arkansas, Arkie was the son of the late Sam and Ida (Martin) Stewart. While serving in the U. S. Air Force and stationed at the Harlingen Air Force Base, he met and married his bride, Zelda Helems, in 1952. He was employed by Missouri Pacific Truck Lines and retired after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Harlingen First Church of the Nazarene where he attended for 64 years. A longtime resident of Harlingen, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Arkie is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Zelda Stewart, along with five children: Cathy (Boyd) Reynolds of McAllen, Texas, Debe (Dan) Hollestelle of Cibolo, Texas, Carrie Stewart, Larry (Jeanne) Stewart, and Rita (Mike) Lingensjo, all three of Harlingen, Texas. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many loving nephews, nieces and relatives. He is predeceased by his parents, one brother, Jack Stewart, and three sisters: Maneedith Barnett, Felicia Sloan, Laurena McElroy, two grandsons: Bryan Raney and Bobby Raney, and one daughter, Linda Stewart.
Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home located at 710 N. Ed Carey Dr. in Harlingen with Pastor Mel Justice of the Harlingen First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
Serving as active pallbearers are son-in-laws Boyd Reynolds, Dan Hollestelle, and Mike Lingensjo, along with grandsons Jeff Reynolds, Allen Lingensjo and Derek Stewart. Tony Abrego is an honorary pallbearer.
