Alice Sanders Fuqua

March 31, 1916 — April 8, 2010

Alice Sanders Fuqua, 94, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 at her residence in Harlingen.
Alice was born in Wisconsin and moved to Rio Hondo at the age of three.  She graduated from Rio Hondo High School in 1933.  She married George Sanders and had two daughters.
Alice is survived by her loving family of daughters, Sue Dowler and Judy Ross and husband, Dick; grandchildren, Pamela Bilger and Doug Dowler; four great grandchildren all will miss her greatly.
The love of her Savior lead her to a very active life at First Christian Church in Harlingen as a Deaconess, organist and pianist for 40 years and Handbell Director for 30 years.  She served in numerous areas with Christian Women’s Fellowship.  For over fifty years she sponsored children and youth groups and activities.  The youth center was dedicated to Alice and her husband, Dick Fuqua.  She served in many areas of Texas and International Christian Endeavor.
Alice served on the board of Festival of Faith and organized The Christmas Tree Lighting and the Easter Sunrise Services at Liberty Garden.   She also was active in Church Women United, H.O.S.T., and Harnito Garden Club.
A Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held on Sunday, April 11, at 2:00 PM, at the First Christian Church in Harlingen.
