Alzaré mis ojos a los montes… (Salmo 121)

Alfredo Lopez, Sr., lovingly known as Fero or Fred, 85, entered peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, with his wife and loved ones by his side.  He was born in Rio Hondo, TX, on August 21, 1935, to Vidal and Rosa Lopez.  Alfredo was a resident of Rio Hondo for most of his life, spending his last years at Valley View Assisted Living.

Alfredo was a Harlingen CISD educator for 35 years.  He also helped his father with Gerdes Home Construction Company that provided many families with homes in the community.  Alfredo loved carpentry, landscaping, and had a passion for hunting and fishing. His children and grandchildren brought him great joy.  He particularly loved and enjoyed watching them participate in athletics.

In his last years, Alfredo received care and support from his children, his loving wife of 63 years, Valley View Assisted Living, and Bee First Hospice.

He is survived by his wife, Elia G. Lopez; his children, Thalia Yvette Garza (Toribio, Jr.), Eloy Eli Lopez (Norma), Annette Lisa Jaramillo (Robert); 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his son, Alfredo Lopez, Jr., his daughter, Vilia Bernice Lopez; his only sibling, Dora Juarez; and his parents, Rosa Lopez and Vidal G. Lopez.

Alfredo’s family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 8, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A service of gratitude and praise will begin at 6:30 p.m. under the direction of La Trinidad Assembly of God Church. A graveside service and interment will take place on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

The Lopez family welcomes floral tributes or memorial contributions in honor of Alfredo Lopez, Sr. may be sent to La Trinidad Assembly of God Church, P. O. Box 475, Rio Hondo, TX 78583.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.
