He was employed by State of Texas with the Department of Social Service and retired after 35 years of loyal service.  He worked with the Valley Aids Council as the director of clinical services for over 10 years until his retirement in 2008.  The council named its Harlingen clinic the Valley AIDS Council Westbrook Clinic in his honor. That was not the only recognition he received as the Cameron County commissioners designated two days, one in 1989 and another in 1995 as “Moses Alex Westbrook Day”.  Alex was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church where he held various positions, the Masonic Lodge of Harlingen and was a former Worthy Patron and Chaplain. He was an avid reader, music lover and enjoyed intricate building of sealed military models and military history buff.
