Alejandro (Cuco) Martinez 85, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. He was born on April 24, 1932 to Hilario and Maria San Pedro Martinez of San Benito, Texas.
Cuco worked for Valcon Incorporated for 27 years as a construction foreman. Following his retirement, he used his skills to make hand crafted wooden heirlooms for each of his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Vision Church in San Benito for over 25 years. He was a man that loved to serve God through many building projects and beautification of the church lawn. Cuco enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables, watching western cowboy movies and listening to mariachi music. His huge bear hugs will be missed by all, but we know he is in Heaven watching over us.
Left to carry on his legacy and treasure his memory is his wife of 68 years, Fidela Martinez; daughters Oralia (Juan) Rodriguez of Glen Rose, Melba (Paul) Turbyfill of Rowlett, Nelda (Leo) Agado of Harlingen, Eunice (Willie) Martinez-Kitchen of Crockett, daughter-in-law, Judy Martinez, son, Eliud (Arleen) Martinez of Rockwall; grandchildren, Perla (Buck) Martin of Glen Rose, Juan (Jennifer) Rodriguez, Jr. of Arlington, Sonia Rodriguez of Houston, Vanessa Agado of San Antonio, Miriam Mihalick of Harlingen, Lynna Agado of Kyle, Zak Martinez of Rockwall, Brooke Martinez of Rockwall; great-grandchildren, Joshua Martin of College Station, Jacob Martin of Glen Rose, Avery G. Mihalick of Harlingen; sisters, Rosa (Martin) Zapata, Dolores Alvarez, brother Raynaldo Martinez, and brother-in-law, Justino P. Casas.
Cuco was preceded in death by his son, Alejandro Martinez, Jr.; parents Hilario and Maria Martinez; brothers Alfonso (Poncho) Martinez, Inocencio (Chencho) Martinez, Lorenzo (Lencho) Martinez; sisters, Guadalupe (Lupe) Esparza and Margarita (Maggie) Martinez.
Visitation will take place on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Samuel Manzewitsch, officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Juan Rodriguez, Jr., Juan Rodriguez, Eliud Martinez, Willie Kitchen, Leo Agado and Paul Turbyfill. Honorary pallbearer will be Pedro (Pete) Galvan.
Cuco's family would like to thank his hospice care nurse, Jessica Sibaja, RN, with Kindred Hospice, who delivered her skilled nursing services with such tenderness and compassion. In addition, the Martinez family would like to thank Albert Vasquez who also delivered his care of our father with such delicacy and respect.
