Al Satterfield

November 18, 1935 — July 4, 2009

South Padre Island, TX:
Al Satterfield, 73, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Al was born on November 18, 1935 in Mesa, Arizona to Bert and Wilma Satterfield.    He moved to Houston, Texas for a short period and then to Redondo Beach, California where he grew up.  Al’s grandfather Albert Bolton was one of the earliest Texas Rangers.
He really enjoyed investing in real estate.  His great aunt from El Paso once told him “land is forever and so get as much as you can.”  He worked diligently, sometimes at two jobs in order to invest at an early age of 24.  Al at one time worked for the Douglas Aircraft Co., was purchasing manager for K-B Homes and Fuqua Mobile Homes, motel owner and realtor in Roswell, New Mexico.  He was a member of the Roswell Country Club, Elks Lodge, Club Padre and Win Investment Club.
After a purchasing trip to San Antonio, Texas to renovate the Roswell motels, he took a side trip down the gulf coast of Texas and wound up at the Hilton on South Padre Island.  Having breakfast he asked the waitress what kind of fish can you catch out there in the gulf.  The waitress said with wide open arms as big as you want.  Al set his sights to retire to the Island.
Al was a great cook and master with the barbeque.  He enjoyed mixing up and bottling a batch of Al’s BBQ sauce from an old handed down recipe from West Virginia and giving it to his friends.  Never the recipe but only the sauce.  He loved all water sports and he spent all of his spare time surfing, fishing, skin diving and was a master at bringing home a great array of “catch.”
Al is survived by his wife, Sharon Satterfield of South Padre Island with whom he just recently celebrated their 50th anniversary; son, Tal Satterfield of South Padre Island; brothers, Bill Satterfield of Roswell, NM and Jim Satterfield of Norco, CA; sister, Dorothy Ringler of Torrance, CA; granddaughter, Angela Sexton of Roswell, NM and great-granddaughter, Ava Sexton of Roswell, NM.  Al was preceded in death by son, Michael Satterfield.
Memorial services will be held at Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, Texas, 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2009 with Father Patrick Wells officiating.
