Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Adan A. Saldana, a longtime resident of Brownsville, Texas, passed from this life on January 21, 2018.  Adan was born to Jose Saldana and Adelaida Saldana Castillo on September 20, 1930 in San Benito, Texas.

Adan enlisted in the U.S. Army in August, 1948 and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He was awarded the Korean War Service Medal with two bronze stars.

He was well known in the Brownsville community for his career in the insurance and real estate industries. He held professional licenses from the Texas Department of Insurance and the Texas Association of Realtors.  Adan was recognized for his integrity, loyalty, and achievement by American National Insurance Company by being selected to American National’s Presidents Club and Leading Producers Club.  He belonged to the Mary Mother of the Church parish and served as a member of Hospitality at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Adan loved life and was an avid reader.

Left to treasure his memory is his wife, Socorro Saldana; children, Belinda (Crispin) Salazar, Cynthia Lenz, Dianida Saldana Contreras, Adam Saldana; son-in-law, Mark Spence; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Eva Garza, Ida Lopez; brother, Noe Saldana.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Arcelia Spence and his parents, Jose Saldana and Adelaida Saldana Castillo.

The Saldana family will be receiving friends and relatives on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 o’clock that evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownsville.  Following the mass, Adan will be laid to rest with military honors at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
