Rafael Hernandez, Jr.

Rafael Hernandez Jr. of San Benito, TX passed away unexpectedly February 2, 2024. His final days were spent surrounded by the family he loved so much.

Rafael was born on September 4, 1955 to parents Rafael Hernandez-Medina and Domitila M. Hernandez.

He was a passionate and loving husband to his beautiful devoted wife of 34 years, Maria Isabel Hernandez. Their marriage was truly one of a kind due to their united desire to live a purposeful life. They were graced with four children, Ivet Rodriguez (Sergio), Annette Ledbetter (Christopher), Rafael Hernandez III (Perlita), Sandra Hernandez and grandchildren Isaias Hernandez, Sergio Israel Rodriguez, Josh M. Hernandez, Gabrielle Hernandez, Andres Rodriguez (step-grandson), Aiden C. Fierros, Isaac Rodriguez, Colden J. Ledbetter and Cash M. Ledbetter.

Rafael was known to be a hard worker from a very young age. That strong work ethic followed him into adulthood as he became an owner operator/truck driver for many years. Unfortunately, he was forced into retirement due to chronic health reasons. He then used his time to stay active in his physical and spiritual health. He enjoyed yard work, mechanic work, outdoor projects, exercising, listening to sermons and spending time with his family. The last precious years he was given, the abilities he did have, were used to build his relationship with God and to share his faith. His grandchildren gave him life and brought him so much joy.

He was blessed to have many caregivers. All his children and grandchildren helped in any way they could. He was very grateful to have his eldest daughter Ivet as his primary caregiver. The family is filled with gratitude for the selfless sacrifice she made to care for him.

Visitation hours will be from 1 PM to 7 PM on Friday 9, 2024, followed by a memorial service at 7 PM at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday 10, 2024 at 10 AM. The service will be followed by the burial at Monte Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Isaias Hernandez, Sergio Israel Rodriguez, Josh M. Hernandez, Aiden C. Fierros, Isaac Rodriguez and Jose A. Hernandez.
